Welcome to Our Lodge
Staunton Lodge #351
proudly strives to maintain the principles on which the Benevolent
and Protective Order of Elks (BPOE) was founded. We
consistently carry out community service and charitable events
that include youth programs, care of the needy, Veterans Service,
furtherance of Americanism, awarding of scholarships and other
Benevolent activities. We believe that "Elks Care — Elks
Share".
Staunton Lodge #351, with over 350 members, is
located in Staunton, VA, about
midway between Roanoke and Winchester minutes off I-81.
Our Lodge offers a Dining Room, Club Room, Children's Room
and on-site parking. We welcome visiting Elks and enjoy the
reputation of being one of Virginia's friendliest Elks
Lodges. Stop by and catch-up with old friends, meet new friends
and find out what is happening around town. We hope to see you at the Lodge soon.
Please
take the time to explore our site and gain an understanding of what it
is to be a member of the Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks. Find
out who we are, what we are, and what we do. Our story is long; our work
is humble; our history is proud. As long as there are those who need
our help, the Elks will be there to give aid and comfort.
The
Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks is distinctly American. It is a
national, charitable organization founded on the principals of Charity,
Justice, Brotherly Love and Fidelity. Through the Elks National
Foundation, which is the charitable arm of the Order, we offer five
national scholarship programs. We also offer Youth programs such as the
Elks Drug Awareness Program and the Elks National Hoop Shoot Free Throw
Contest and Veterans Services such as the Elks National Veterans
Service Commission and a grant to maintain the Elks Veterans Memorial in
Chicago.

Gene Fitzgerald Memorial Trap Shoot Raising Dollars for the Wounded Warrior Project

On
August 21, 2010, a gorgeous August afternoon, the outstanding
facilities and views provided by the Shenandale Gun Club and the
enthusiasm of the shooters and spectators all contributed to the
success of the 1st Annual Gene Fitzgerald Memorial Trap Shoot.
An
event where around 25 shooters, watched by another 25 spectators, shot
50 rounds at fleeting glimpses of discs of orange clay. A few hours
later when the shots, laughter, cheers and jibes subsided and the group
adjourned to the Lodge for some refreshment, around $800 had been raised
in honor of Gene Fitzgerald for the Wounded Warrior Project.
Kudos
to the Lodge 351 members who made this event a success. Members who
contributed include Bill Schindler who originated and chaired the event,
Watson Lewis, Rowland "Bubba" Byrd and Jeff Wood (Shenandale Gun Club
Shooting Directors), Dave Holsinger, Ron Via and Bruce Rupert. Special
thanks to Chris Kincheloe (Nuckols Gun Works) for his support with door
prizes, ammo and other support.

"Operation Get Bunked" An ENF Impact Grant Project
"Operation
Get Bunked" successfully concluded with Assembly Day on May 15, 2010 at
Valley Mission. On December 2, 2009. the Elks Nations Foundation (ENF)
awarded Staunton Lodge #351 a $10,000 Impact Grant to implement
"Operation Get Bunked.", a project that was created by the Community
Activities Committee of Lodge #351. The project involved working with
the Valley Mission to provide materials and labor for the construction
and outfitting bunk beds with mattresses, pillows and bed clothes in
order to improve the housing arrangements and increase capacity for
those less fortunate (single people and families with children) who must
use the Valley Mission as their temporary home. Thanks again to all who participated.

Member Appreciation Day
Raising Dollars for the Elks National Foundation (ENF)
The
House Committee, headed by Larry Snead and Rader Dod, Debs Ryder and
the kitchen staff went all out for Member Appreciation Day on September
18, 2010. The members of Lodge 351 thank you all. Cakewalk Raises $397 for ENF
At Member Appreciation Day Lodge 351 members "walked" to win one of 29
cakes donated by members of the Lodge. Judging by the expressions on
the winners´ faces, it was hard to tell who was more pleased to win a
cake—the children or the adults. They all seemed quite pleased to be a
winner. The
Cakewalk, an idea from Debs Ryder, was coordinated by Brenda Hyde. The
response to the requests for cake donations was gratifying. Two people,
Nancy McCray and Ann Demory, actually donated two cakes. Charlotte
Fitzgerald and Linda Phillips proved to be excellent ticket sellers and
quickly sold 290 cakewalk tickets. Lodge 351 ENF Chair, Ken Pawlik, did
an excellent job at the microphone keeping the members informed,
enthused and filling the chairs for a chance at the next cake. Thank you
to everyone involved in making the cakewalk a success. Appreciation Day Crowd Pleaser

Raymond
"Buster" Shaner, Kieth Haaf, Paul Hiveley, Betsy Erskine, Shirley Byrd
and Exalted Ruler Tim Welch watch Debs Ryder (pictured below) lead off
the dunking booth action.
The
dunking booth at Member Appreciation Day drew a large number of
onlookers, and raised $151, after expenses, in donations for ENF. Debs
Ryder, as the lead off "dunkee," drew a lot of crowd response and the
most dollars. She was followed by Will Dod, age 8, who leapt at the
chance for a turn in the dunking booth. Not wanting Lodge 351 to become
known as the Lodge where men are dry and "dunkees" are women and
children, Jeff Byrd, Robbie Miller and ENF Chairman Ken Pawlik climbed
up and took their turn in the booth. Thank you "dunkees," ER Tim Welch
and ENF Chair Ken Pawlik for your participation.
